Closer Look at the Middle School Program

Preparing young rowers for the next level
Haddon Township Rowing  Club is pleased to offer a new program that gives young athletes a chance to explore rowing while still in middle school. Our Youth Development Program will provide instruction on boat handling, safety, technical skills and strength building. Coaches work to maximize the amount of time rowers are on the water.

Crew is a growing sport that offers many advantages, from athletic improvement, and leadership development  to scholastic opportunities. No need to wait until high school to check out this increasingly popular sport.

WHEN
The Fall 2020 Youth Development Program consists of six, 2-hour sessions conducted on consecutive Saturday mornings from 8:00am - 10:00 am.

WHERE
Program will be held at the Camden County Boathouse, 7050 N. Park Driver, Pennsauken, NJ 08109
Training will take place on the Cooper River (weather permitting).
Report to the Club's bay in the Boathouse, located at the back of the building, the last bay on the right when facing the river.

WHO
The program is open to any 7th or 8th grade student enrolled in the Rohrer Middle School of Haddon Township, NJ..
While no prior rowing experience or athletic ability is required, participants must be able to swim.

APPAREL
Rowers should wear comfortable, form fitting clothing. Baggy clothing, oversized gym shorts are problematic because loose material can get caught in the seat mechanism.

Sneakers/athletic shoes are needed for land workouts.  For water practice, rowers need sturdy socks. They remove their shoes before getting into the boat because rowing boats are equipped with special shoes affixed to the unit.

WEATHER
We practice and train in rain. The use of rain gear is the rower’s prerogative – as long as it does not interfere with movement in the boat. We do NOT row during thunderstorms or high winds. In case of inclement weather, rowers will train inside the boathouse.

ABSENCE
If your child is unable to attend a session, please text Head Coach Gregg Francis at 609.315.5524 or email gfrancis.htcrew@gmail.com.
