HT Rowing will head back to the Schuylkill River this weekend for the Philadelphia City Championship! All freshman and novice events will occur on Saturday and all JV and Varsity events will take place on Sunday. All racing on Saturday will be one and done heats with first place crews receiving gold medals. Varsity and JV events on Sunday will start with time trials. The top six crews from each event will advance to the finals on Sunday afternoon. All athletes must arrive at the trailer 2 hours prior to their race time. The Haddon Township Rowing team competed in two days of competitive racing on Saturday at Lake Lenape and Sunday in Philadelphia with some outstanding results. Below are highlights and images:
On the Lady Hawk’s side, first place finishes were won by both girls Novice Quads as they raced in separate heats. Lineups included: Sarah Lex, Athena Constantakos, Maggie Dunn, Grace McHugh and Maddie Eagan, Fiona Gallagher, Jacqui Weber, Ella Chiroux. In the girls Novice Single, Caroline Reich had an awesome second place finish. In the girls JV Single, MaryTheresa Fitzpatrick brought home a first and in a separate heat, Quinn Johnston narrowly missed a first by a tenth of a second. The girls Varsity Quad finished strong with a second place finish with the lineup of Fiona Steele, Maya Jacobsen, Olivia Hollingsworth and Sara Ladik. Dominating the boys Novice Double race, Jack Fowler and Josh Dykas finished first with open water. John Buan grabbed a strong second place finish. Racing in doubles and facing tough competition from other South Jersey high schools, Owen Fitzpatrick and Jon Weber edged their teammates, Joey Savell and Mark Kocher by a tenth of a second for first and second place finishes. Next weekend the Hawks compete to be Philadelphia City Champions as they race on Saturday and Sunday. Go Hawks! HT Rowing will travel to Lake Lenape on Saturday for the Lenape Sprints then head back to the Schuylkill on Sunday for Manny Flick #3. All athletes should arrive at Lake Lenape by 7:15 am on Saturday. All athletes must arrive at the trailer 2 hours prior to their race on Sunday. All athletes are required to arrive at the trailer two hours prior to race time. Once again, we know it is disappointing but there is a strict no spectator rule, which could result in a season long disqualification if broken. If any parents do try to attend we will scratch your child's lineup. That said, good news is that there is supposed to be a livestream! We will post the link once it becomes available. Racing has finally returned!! The Hawks will head to the Schuylkill River on Sunday (4/11) for the first Manny Flick Regatta. All athletes are required to arrive at the trailer 2 hours prior to race time and must stay at the trailer until dismissed by a coach. Be prepared for rain, the forecast does not look great.
Reminders: -PARENTS MAY NOT ATTEND -- We completely understand how disappointing this is, but we cannot be more serious. The Hawks are back in competition with the City of Philadelphia's decision to allow regattas on the Schuylkill. Our 2021 spring racing season begins with the Manny Flick series (April 11, 18 & 25) followed by City Championships (May 1 & 2) and then Stotesbury Cup (May 14-15). HT Rowing is also expected to compete at Mid Atlantic Youth Regatta in West Windsor, NJ (May 8th) as well as Cooper River hosted events.
