Haddon Hammer Race Report

Sunday's Haddon Hammer proved to be a day of achievement for Haddon Township Crew. The team came together to host the indoor rowing competition and welcomed local high school teams, alumni, and masters to participate.

Starting the day off in the novice women's category, Kayla, Amanda, and Olivia H. all pushed themselves to reach incredible PR's. Both Amanda and Kayla shaved a remarkable amount of time from their previous 2K's and Olivia H. represented the team well by finishing 6th overall out of 30 participates.

Next came the women's lightweight races where Noa and Angela showcased the hardwork they've put in this winter. Noa pulled an impressive split while Angela grabbed the 1st place medal in the event!

The women's Jr open race was one to watch. Brie fought hard against a tough Haddonfield competitor while pulling an amazing 1:56.0 split. She finished 3rd overall making the team proud. Rachel showed off her incredible improvement this season by finishing strong through the 2000 meter race.

On the men's side, the novices kicked off a stream of PR's during their first erg compition. Dan M. finished 3rd overall with an impressive time of 6:59.4. Dan proved to show up strong on race day which reflects the hard work he's been showing in the erg room every practice. Erik finished 12th overall out of 47 while Liam, Colin, Mike, Nick, and Matteo not only held their own among the other rowers, but they decreased their previous 2k times by considerable amounts.

In the lightweight category Noah finished 6th overall with an impressive time of 7:01.3 while Tyler and Keaton finished strong with times of 7:14.6 and 7:27.2. These boys serve as great role models for the younger rowers, giving their best on race day and always giving 100% at practice.

Dan W. kicked off the men's Jr open category by finishing first in his heat and 14th overall. Ryan Springer finished 5th overall with an incredible time of 6:39.5 while rowing in very competitive heat! Joel, Joey,and Oliver rowed strong through their races and were great examples of how to push through every stoke.

Sunday's annual event served as an opportunity for the team to support and encourage each other while gaining racing experience against their local competition. The coaches were especially impressed with the number of PR's reached by so many team members and the showing of sportsmanship toward other teams. It's always great to see an HT rower shake the hand of a competitor and offer congratulations. Great job this weekend! This was an awesome stepping stone toward a promising spring season.
