This morning HT Rowing launched its Fall 2022 Middle School program, sending several quads onto Cooper River. Spirits were high, the weather cooperative and the skill level of participants impressive. Prior rowing experience is not needed to participate, but several of today's rowers are graduates of HTR's Learn to Row summer program who eagerly sought out the chance to be back on the water. Practice will be held at the BOATHOUSE today from 3:30-5:30 as planned.
We remember fondly Gerard Banmiller, a devoted supporter of youth rowing, who was instrumental in a $19,000 donation from 1st Colonial Community Bank that enabled the Club to obtain a much needed, new quad. There was no question about a name for the new boat. 'Community' was the unanimous choice - chosen as a way to honor an extraordinary man as well as the bank he founded for all they have done on behalf of others. A memorial service is being held today for Mr. Banmiller who passed August 17th. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and all who knew and loved him. HTR is again offering a fall program for 7th and 8th graders. It's a great opportunity to check out a new sport or build existing skills to prepare for joining the high school team where you'll compete in regattas. No rowing experience is needed. You just need to be able to swim - after all, rowing is a water sport. Program begins September 17th - deadline to register is the 12th.
