HTCC had a fantastic weekend at the SRAA National Championship! Parker and Vince started off the weekend by putting in a solid race in their heat and qualifying themselves for the semis on Saturday. They boys looked strong coming down the race course in their semi but were unable to advance to the finals. Great job guys!
Mackenzie, Gillian, Alex, and Brooke were next up for the Hawks as they raced in the girls JV quad event. These girls are all novices and held even with the top crews through most of the race. Although they didn't advance the coaching staff was very excited to see how well they performed against top crews with much more experience! Excellent race girls! Matt, Nick, Jack H, and Jack S won their heat on Saturday in convincing fashion, advancing them to the finals a few hours later. In the final, they faced a tough crew from Belen Jesuit in Miami and finished just behind, winning a silver medal!! Although the boys were hoping for gold this is an enormous accomplishment and they should be very proud! Great job guys! Luke, Erik, Dan, and Duff were the last crew to race on Friday for the Hawks. They came in second place in their heat with the third best overall time, qualifying for the finals. The boys put together one of the best races of their season in the final, topping Brophy (who beat them in heats) and finishing with a silver medal!! This is the best finish HT has ever had in the boys varsity quad at SRAA's! This is also the first time HT has won double silver medals! Luke, Erik, Dan, and Duff will head down to Sarasota, Florida in a few weeks to race for the USRowing Youth National Championship. GO HAWKS!!! HTCC is sending four crews to race in the SRAA Scholastic National Championship this weekend on Cooper River! The weather is supposed to be nice but come prepared in case it rains. All athletes must arrive at the boathouse 90 minutes prior to their race.

They had a strong race but were unable to advance to the final in an extremely fast event. Great work boys!
Matt, Nick, Jack H, and Jack S came into the weekend as the favorite in the boys freshman quad event. They finished second overall in the time trial and first overall in the semi-finals. They went into the final confident and ready to go and proved what they have been showing in practice all season, winning a gold medal against the toughest competition they have faced all year! Excellent work boys!! Luke, Erik, Dan, and Duff followed by winning their semi-final in the boys varsity quad, and posting the fastest qualifying time for finals. They returned to the race course a few hours later poised to become the first crew in school history to medal in this event. They did just that, finishing in third place overall, winning bronze and making team history! Great job boys!! The club will return to Cooper River this weekend as four boats have qualified for and will race in the SRAA National Championship on Friday and Saturday. Practice schedule for the week: Monday: After school -- We will unload and rig and talk about who needs to be at practice the rest of the week. Tuesday-Thursday: 5 am - 7 am Friday-Saturday: Race GO HAWKS!! HTCC had a solid first day of racing at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta today on the Schuylkill River. Since there were no novice events this weekend, many of our novices raced against varsity and jv competition and performed very well! Click here to view a livestream of semis and finals.
Matt, Nick, Jack H, and Jack S were the first crew to advance to the semis for the Hawks. They finished the time trial in the boys freshman quad with the second place overall time, just 0.27 seconds off of first. The boys followed through in their semi-final this evening, winning their race and going into finals with the fastest overall time. They will race in the final tomorrow at 1:52. Let's go boys!! Parker and Vince were the second crew to advance to the semis, finishing in 8th place overall in the time-trial for the boys varsity double event. They will race in their semi-final tomorrow morning at 9:40. They need to finish in the top three to advance to the final at 3:46. Luke, Erik, Dan, and Duff were the last crew to advance to the semis for the Hawks. They finished with the second fasted time overall in the boys varsity quad, 5 seconds behind Malvern. They will race in their semi-final tomorrow morning at 10:25. They need to finish in the top three to advance to the final at 4:21. Jack M and Jay finished 16th overall in the boys junior double. As novices racing up against varsity competition, this was a very good result for the boys. Mike and Will, also racing against varsity competition, put together a solid race in the boys lightweight double. Nolan, Tristan, Anthony, and Aidan competed in the extremely fast boys junior quad category. Even with three novices in the boat, the boys had a very competitive time and just missed out of qualifying for semis. Gillian, Alex, Portia, and Erica had a tough race in the very fast girls freshman quad event. They finished 8th overall, just two places away from advancing to the finals. Mackenzie, Ella, Emily, and Brooke toughed out their race even though several girls were racing injured. They were unable to advance but they had a solid race! GO HAWKS!!!! Its Stotes time!! HTCC will head to the Schuylkill River this weekend to face off against over 970 entries from over 130 high schools in the largest high school regatta in the world! It is supposed to be summer-like temperatures so be sure to bring your sunscreen and stay hydrated!! The boat trailer will be located at the Three Angels so athletes should be dropped off where the road closure begins (Grant Statue).
Thursday Practice: We will be practicing on the Schuylkill on Thursday afternoon. Be prepared for lots of traffic as most teams will be practicing around the same time. Athletes should leave school at 11:00, grab a QUICK lunch and then head over. As soon as your whole lineup is there and your boat is rigged you can practice. Once you get off the water and strap your boat down you may leave. You do not need to contact the school, everyone is already signed out with an approved absence. Friday/Saturday: Pay Attention to when your races are, some people have heats and semis on Friday and finals on Saturday. Other people will have heats on Friday and semis and finals on Saturday. You must arrive at the boat trailer 2 hours prior to race time. DO NOT BE LATE. As stated earlier, this is a huge regatta so lines for the dock will be long and you will need to launch early for your race. DO NOT BE LATE!! The Haddon Township Crew Club braved cold temperatures, high winds, and heavy rain this weekend at the USRowing Mid-Atlantic Youth Championships. Despite the weather ending the weekend early, the club came away with a big win in the varsity quad and solid finishes from the other crews who had the chance to race. By winning their event, Luke Brown, Erik Tingley, Dan McGarry, and Paul Duffy qualified to race in the USRowing Youth National Championship in Sarasota, Florida on June 9th-11th. This event is open to all junior crews, not just scholastic teams. The boys finished 3 seconds ahead of second place Malvern Prep, and 5 seconds ahead of third place Conestoga.
In other races, Ella Clemens put together a solid performance finishing 8th in the womens youth single. Parker Revier and Vince Fitzpatrick also finished 8th overall in the mens youth double event. In the under 17 womens double, Portia Castillo and Erica Peterson finished 10th overall. The Hawks had two crews racing in the mens under 17 double. Jack Mallgrave and Jay Reinert finished 5th and only 5 seconds out of the medals, and Will Neunson and Mike Martino finished 10th. Unfortunately the race was cut short due to weather before the last three crews could race. The Hawks will head to the Schuylkill River this weekend to face off against 979 entries from 133 high schools from across North America in the Stotesbury Cup Regatta. Apologies for the delay in getting the schedule out. With the weather forecast being what it is, race organizers were forced to change the original schedule and move to an inclement weather plan. This means that all racing will be held on Saturday -- there will be NO RACING ON SUNDAY. Time trials will be held in the morning with the top six crews in each event moving to finals in the afternoon. All athletes must arrive 2 hours prior to race time. Be sure to dress for the weather, it is going to pour all day. BRING EXTRA CLOTHES (a towel would probably be a good idea as well).

The Crew Club had a fantastic weekend at the Philadelphia City Championships on the Schuylkill River. The club had 10 crews advance to the finals, and came away with 5 medals, including 4 golds and a 7th place overall finish (scull/sweep) in the points contest, in what proved to be the team's most successful city championship ever!
Jack M. started the day off for the Hawks with what could be called the race of the day in the boys novice single. He battled with Bonner throughout the piece trading first place position and finally pulled it out in the last few strokes to win gold! Mackenzie, Gillian, Alex, and Brooke started a string of three races with the Hawks in top position. The girls dominated the novice quad event, winning gold by almost 13 seconds! In the next race down the course, Nolan, Tristan, Anthony, and Jay won gold in the boys novice quad by almost 5 seconds! In what the coaches are calling the heart attack race, Matt, Nick, Jack H, and Jack S caught a crab in the first three strokes dropping to two boat lengths down on the entire boys freshman quad field. They kept their cool, however, and fought back, walking through every other crew to earn gold by over 3 seconds! The boys varsity quad of Luke, Erik, Dan and Duff came down the course with a fantastic piece finishing with a bronze medal in a race where the top three times were within 3 seconds and second and third place were decided by 0.25 seconds. Congrats to all crews! Full results are listed below. The Hawks will head to Mercer, NJ this weekend for the USRowing Mid-Atlantic Youth Championship.
