Yesterday marked the first race of HT’s 2015 spring season. Sporting their sharp, new unisuits, the team layered up early Sunday morning ready to battle the cold and wind at the Horvat Series’ 2nd Manny Flick.
The first race of the morning was the girls’ JV Quad. Sophia, Ella, Rachel and Julie raced neck and neck down the Schuylkill to beat out the Academy of Notre Dame to win 2nd place. The girls swung together and looked controlled coming down the river. In the boys’ JV Quad, Paul, Dan, Parker and Walter finished in 2nd place in front some fierce competition. The boys looked powerful and connected as they breezed by lanes 3 and 5. The afternoon races brought harsher water conditions but the Hawks faced them without blunder. Noa Lauren, straight off the plane from their senior trip, hoped in the boat to race in the Varsity Double. The girl’s rowed a clean 1500 meters and took 2nd place. Next up, the girls’ Varsity Quad. Olivia H, Angela, Becca, and Olivia E raced down the course and finished 2nd with open water between the trailing crew. These girls are excited to fine-tune their skills for the next Flick; they began discussing what they needed to work on as soon as they reached the dock. Also fresh from their senior trip, Springer, Joel, and Noah teamed up with Luke to compete in the boys’ Varsity Quad. Finishing in 4th place, the boys charged down the river, slicing through the wind and chop. The last race for the Hawks was the second flight of the boys’ Varsity Quads. Erik, Keaton, Joey, and Tyler finished 2nd place ahead of some tough competitors. They boys fearlessly faced cold wind gusts and choppy water. Friends & Family: thank you for manning the tent, trailer, and food this weekend. Your support does not go unnoted! Reminders for this week: TODAY we will be meeting at the boathouse after school. We will rig the boats and row. TOMORROW we will be off. Wednesday we will start morning practice. Be ready to row at 5am. Racing season is finally here!!! We start the season tomorrow with Manny Flick 2. Everyone should arrive at the trailer two hours prior to racing. The trailer will be located in the parking lot at St. Joe's Boathouse. Make sure you dress warm, bring a change of clothes, and give yourselves enough time to get there in case of traffic. Also, Mrs. Duffy has everyone's uni. If you have not picked yours up yet, you need to get in touch with her.

Have a great time on your trip!! Captains have your workout plan for the week. We'll see you Sunday! -Gregg Practice today is cancelled and we will practice Sunday instead. We will most likely be getting on the water tomorrow for the first time of the spring, so Sunday gives us an extra day on the water instead of just running today.
