We are pleased to announce this year's recipients of HTR's Rower Awards that recognize outstanding accomplishments in athleticism, sportsmanship and leadership.
Most Valuable Rower Female - Athena Constantakos Most Valuable Rower Male - Luke Gerber Awarded to a rowers who anticipate and respond to needs without having to be asked. The rower is thoughtful, respectful, has an infectious positive attitude and never blames others for mishaps or setbacks. They excel in finding and giving the most of themselves. Hammer Award Female - Sarah Lex Hammer Award Male - Joey Savell Given to the athlete that spins the biggest erg. The erg is a symbol of hard work, determination and toughness. Most Improved Athlete of the Year - Henry Fowler The recipient has been unrelenting in efforts to improve their skills and their progress is a testament to the value of never giving up. The Anna Arsenault Award - Anthony Gattone Presented to the rower who exemplifies club values, exhibiting at all times the qualities of leadership, sportsmanship and unity. Recipients exceed the coaches’ expectations in teamwork, dedication to improving and unflappable positive attitude. The Boys Varsity Quad of Haddon Township Rowing had a spectacular end to the season at US Rowing's Youth Nationals held this past weekend in Florida. At this highly competitive, annual championship that attracts hundreds of team from across the country, HTR's quad earned the ranking of 10th fastest boys quad in the nation with their photo finish in the B-Finals. Congratulations to the boat for this impressive accomplishment: Luke Gerber, Joey Savell, Henry Fowler and Brendan Savell (shown below l-r). While Luke and Joey graduate this year, Brendan and Henry return for the fall season.
HT Rowing's Girls Varsity Quad took the lead at the start of today's Youth Nationals C Finals and never gave it up. They led all the way down the 2,000 meter course, crossing the finish line 5 seconds ahead of the 2nd place finisher. The girl's varsity quad finished 18th, marking the best girls finish ever and secured them a spot in Saturday's C finals. That race to take place 10:32 on Saturday.
