We will begin winter lifting TOMORROW (11/21) at 4:30 in the weight room and will continue on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays throughout November and December. Lifting should only take 45 minutes to an hour. Anyone participating in Winter/Spring Crew is strongly encouraged to attend.
We will also begin individual goal setting meetings next week. Lastly...Make sure you have a physical prior to the start of practice in January. You will be unable to participate if you do not have your paperwork in. The Erg Room underwent a remarkable transformation Saturday morning. Armed with sponges, mops, serious cleansers and an awesome determination, the Erg Room Clean-Up crew removed years of whatever builds up in an erg room. Not only does the room sparkle, but our own in-house engineer Jim Howley repaired on the fans. A special thanks to the rowers who helped out and earned the 'grandmom-approved' award for some serious wall scrubbing. Pictures do not do justice, but here they are anyway. Phase II of Erg Room Makeover (painting et al) will be scheduled soon.
Clean-Up crew members: Noah Haney, Keaton Schneider, Jim Howley, Stephanie Haney, Frannie Marsh, Vicky Tingley, Ellen Shuttleworth, Gregg Francis, Bob Brown, Dan McGarry, Luke Brown and Beth Wilkinson (not shown). We will be beginning phase 1 of our erg room cleanup this Saturday at 10:00 by washing the walls and floor and getting rid of anything we don't need. The more people that help out the shorter we will be there!
Monday: OFF
Tuesday: Report to the boathouse at 3:30 -- we will unload the trailer and wash all of our equipment -- we will not row Wednesday: Report to the erg room at 3:15 for our end of season 6k test -- that's right 6k Starting during the middle or end of next week the coaches will be opening the weight room 3 times a week. Anyone who plans on rowing this spring is encouraged to come lift, even if you did not participate in the fall season. The lifting schedule will be posted later this week. In addition to lifting, everyone should be running or doing some form of cardio everyday. I will be in the erg room most afternoons...If anyone would like to erg let me know and I will let you in. These next two months can make a huge difference come championship season so it is important that you stay in shape. Gold medals are won in training!! -Gregg The Hawks wrapped up a very successful weekend today on Lake Mercer with a weekend total of 5 gold medals!
On Saturday, HTCC raced in the Philadelphia Frostbite regatta. Lauren and Olivia started the day off with blast, winning gold eight seconds ahead of second place Newport RC. A few hours later, Lauren jumped back into the water to join Kara, Kayla, and Ella in a strong performance in the womens quad. The girls took third place in what the coaches felt was their best rowing of the week! Great job girls!! The boys continued the club's hot streak only minutes after the girls crossed the finish line. In flight one of the mens quad, Luke, Springer, Keaton, and Noah crossed the line in first place, three seconds ahead of Malvern Prep. In the very next race, Erik, Tyler, Dan, and Joey took the gold and Mike, Liam, Walter, and Duff finished in third place in flight 2 of the mens quad! The Hawks came into the Braxton Regatta eager to continue where they left off at the Frostbite. Lauren and Olivia raced strong to finish in third place in the womens double. Colin and Duff followed shortly after and put together a great performance despite having only rowed together once prior to the regatta. Kara, Kayla, Ella, and Olivia showed great character and heart during their final in the womens quad. An early crab forced the lineup to stop for a considerable amount of time. The girls picked right back up where they left off, however, and were able to finish the race, closing a large amount of the gap they lost! In the last races of the weekend, the boys were able to repeat their performance from the Frostbite. Erik, Tyler, Dan, and Joey took first place, and Mike, Liam, Walter, and Duff finished third in final 1 of the mens quad. In final 2, Luke, Springer, Keaton, and Noah took home another gold, this time ahead of New Canaan. Congratulations to every crew! Welcome to the final weekend of fall racing for HTCC and the first weekend of side by side sprint racing! This weekend we will be traveling to Lake Mercer in West Windsor, NJ to race in the Philadelphia Frostbite regatta on Saturday and the Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta on Sunday. The Frostbite Regatta is a 2000 meter sprint race and the Braxton Regatta is 1500 meters.
Make sure you dress appropriately and leave time for traffic. All crews are expected to arrive at the trailer two hours prior to racing.
