The club finished the 2015 season in fine form today at the USRowing Youth National Championship. Both quads had their best races of the season on the most important day of the season. Angela, Lauren, Olivia, and Noa had an incredible race to take second place in the C Final. Although leading early, the girls slipped back slightly coming through the second 500m. They made an incredible move at the halfway point of the race and pushed through the pain to hold pace and even increase rate all the way through the finish. With their finish the girls secured their place as the 14th fastest youth womens quad in the nation! Erik, Springer, Luke, and Keaton followed the girls with another fantastic race In the C Final. The boys showed great faith in their race plan and their ability when they held their rate despite being down off the start. The boys were in sixth place for a large portion of the race but made a huge move halfway through the race, gradually walking back through the fifth and fourth place crews and sprinting their way into third place. This result puts the boys as the 15th fastest youth mens quad in the nation! Congratulations to both crews on a tremendous season!! Go Hawks! HTCC returned to Nathan Benderson Park today for day 2 of the USRowing Youth National Championship. Angela, Lauren, Olivia, and Noa started the day with a strong race in their rep. They led early and held first place through the first several hundred meters. They finished the race in fourth place and earned themselves a spot on the C Final tomorrow. The girls will be racing in lane 7 tomorrow at 10:56 am. Erik, Springer, Luke, and Keaton raced a half hour after the girls today in what was hailed by the announcers as "The race of the regatta!" Coming through the halfway point of the race, the first through fifth place boats were going stroke for stroke within one boat length of each other. The boys finished in fifth place in the fastest rep of the day, earning themselves a spot in the C Final tomorrow. They will be racing in lane 7 tomorrow at 11:18 am. Both races will be streamed live at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gORFfYlx-0 The club arrived in Sarasota on Thursday and was welcomed by thunderstorms and blistering heat during the first day of practice. On Friday the rain cleared but the heat did not for the first day of racing. Angela, Lauren, Olivia, and Noa started the day for the Hawks with a strong fourth place finish in their heat. The girls advanced to the reps and will race this morning at 10:06 in lane 3. Erik, Springer, Luke, and Keaton followed the girls with a 6th place finish in one of the fastest heats of the day. They will be racing in the reps at 10:34 in lane 2. Both crews need top 2 finishes to advance to the semis this afternoon. Third place moves on to the c final, as well as the next two fastest times overall. GO HAWKS! The Team gave back to the community on Saturday, June 6th, helping to clean-up debris and other items not meant for Mother Nature that had collected (been tossed) along the gully that borders Van Sciver Elementary school. Among the more interesting finds, an upholstered chair, shopping cart, several hub caps and quite a few golf balls, tennis balls and baseballs. It was not such easy work navigating through poison ivy, brambles, mud and and steep banks. But tough jobs are what we do. Thanks to all rowers and parents who could make it: Rebecca Brown, Luke Brown, Ella Clemens, Paul Duffy, Joel Egbert, Julie Erhardt, Noah Haney, Christine Marsh, Daniel McGarry, Kara Shuttleworth, Parker Revier, Walter Smith and Ryan Springer, Krista Fanelle, Frannie Marsh, Maureen Higgins, Dan McGarry, Shannon Clemens, Beth Wilkinson and Vicky Tingley.
We may make $10,000. That's the goal for the Go Fund Me account HT Crew established to help pay the costs of sending two varsity quads to Youth Nationals in Florida. Just six days into the campaign and we are well over 1/3 of the way 'home' having raised more than $3,800 by 51 people. We are in awe of the generosity of donors and very grateful for their support.
