The 2015 City Championships took place this weekend and the Haddon Township Hawks finished the long day with three boats on the metals dock. Many of the hawks competed twice as the morning heats began with head races. All entries built into their 15k pieces and raced against the clock; the top 6 fastest times moved onto to the finals in the afternoon.
First up in the JV1x, Matteo finished his heat in 7:16.49. This race was no doubt his best of the season; he stayed powerful and determined throughout and finished the race exhausting all energy. Next up, Christine and Sophia faced against the girls JV doubles in the heats and raced down the course in 7:13.97. Their catches looked fast and in sync as they shot down the race course. In the varsity single heat, both Tyler and Joey represented HTCC. Tyler finished his 15k in 5:52.25 just missing the final by a few seconds. Joey raced down the course and finished his 15k in 6:07.30. Joel and Noah raced against the clock next in the V2x heats; they finished their 1500 meters in 5:21.46. The boys are looking forward to taking the next two weeks to push their limits and prepare for a successful Stotesbury turnout. In the girls JV4x, Olivia F, Becca, Kara, and Rachel competed in their heat and finished in 4th, safely securing their spot in the afternoon final. In the final, they lined up against the toughest competition in the city; the pushed themselves to ultimate exhaustion and finished in 4th place with a time of 5:45.19. Similarly, the boys JV4x beat the clock in their heat finishing in 6th place and grabbing a spot in the final. Later in the day, Paul, Parker, Walter, and Dan lined up with the fastest six boats and finished in 5th place with a time of 5:06.28. In the first straight final of the day for HT, Julie and Ella competed side by side with the other Freshman/Novice doubles. The girls ended their race in 6:38.41 and met the coaches on the metals dock to claim their silver metals! The girls V4x also competed in straight final. Angela, Olivia H, Noa, and Lauren lined up with the fastest varsity quads in the area. They started off with a fast start out of their stake boat and followed suit down the racecourse finishing in 2nd place in 5:34.61. The girl’s ended their day parked at the metals dock picking up their silvers! In the V4x, Springer, Erik, Keaton, and Luke went after their heat race and finished in 3rd place with a time of 4:53.41. The final was one of the last races of a long day, and the boys proved themselves to be unforgiving racers. Most of the race showed a fleet racing down the river side-by-side, each boat within inches of the other bow balls. They pushed themselves to the limit and finished their final in 4:53.48 winning bronze metals! Comments are closed.
