The Hawks had a very successful day on the Cooper River yesterday at the Garden State Championship. The team earned medals in 9 out of the team's 11 events.
First up, Joey stole bronze in the men's jv single. The conditions yesterday we're not ideal for a single, but that didn't stop Joey from cutting through the waves and finishing ahead of Haddonfield. Next up, Angela and Noa raced hard and earned a silver medal finish in the lightweight double, beating out Montclair, Holy Spirit, and Westfield. Mike and Nick fought the wind to reach 4th place in the men's lightweight double. The pair rose to the occasion while racing against a few more experienced crews in a new category. They finished with a time of 6:46.63. Maddie and Mariana raced in the varsity double and finished in 3rd. This was the first race of the season for senior Maddie who's been working hard to overcome an injury. The pair challenged themselves to complete a controlled 1500 meters. The first set of gold medals went to Tyler and Keaton who raced in the men's varsity double. The pair finished ahead of Don Bosco, Montclair, St. Joe's HS, Christian Brothers, and Bergen Catholic. Tyler and Keaton won a bid to SRAA's. The Hawks saw gold again in the men's freshman quad. Erik, Luke, Paul, and Dan M flew past their competition and rightfully earned first place, securing their bid to the SRAA's. Gold again for the women's novice quad! Olivia E, Kara, Kayla, and Olivia H won their first gold of her season yesterday, pushing past Ridgewood and Westfield. These girls have been hitting the water hard, and their dedication was proven on race day. More medals for the Hawks! The men's novice quad got silver in their race. Parker, Matteo, Colin, and Liam finished with a time of 5:53.18 ahead of St. Joe's HS, Bergen Catholic, and Westfield. Bronze medals were awarded to the women's JV quad yesterday afternoon. Brie, Becca, Sophia, and Rachel arrived early to race in heat 1, and pushed past Westfield to secure their spot in the final. In the afternoon, the girls left all their energy on the water and finished in 3rd place against some tough competition. Gold medals went to the men's varsity quad! Joel, Noah, Dan W, and Ryan pushed through each stroke and finished 6.86 seconds before the 2nd place boat. The finished ahead of Teaneck, Bergen Catholic, Westfield, St. Joe's HS, and Ridgewood. The boy's rowed a powerful 1500, and their gold medals are well deserved. They also qualified for SRAA's What an amazing day for the Haddon Twp Hawks! The coaches are impressed with the perseverance the team showed yesterday. We look forward to the team's continuing growth, and are excited to see more medals in the upcoming regattas. We are back here in the action competing at the Cooper Cup today. We can't wait to watch some great races and enjoy our Sunday on the Cooper. Comments are closed.
