The Hawks had an eventful day at Manny Flick #4 on the beautiful Schuylkill River. Today was especially important for the novices who finally raced in their first spring sprint.
Mike and Nick arrived bright and early to race first in the novice double. They came down the race course looking controlled and focused, finishing with a time of 6:05.14. In the boy's freshman quads, Paul, Luke, Dan M, and Eric finished third in heat 1. The boys proved their hard work today on the river, and will no doubt continue to get faster and stronger. In heat 2, Liam, Colin, Matteo, and Parker also took 3rd place. The crew fearlessly faced some more experienced crews and rowed an impressive race fighting back every stoke. Joey represented HT in the JV single category. He came down the race course with an impressively high rate and fought to snag 3rd. Keaton and Tyler earned gold in the boy's varsity double category! You couldn't miss the pair, in their neon hats, sweeping past the boats beside them. The boy's varsity quad snagged first place, finishing just 00:00:69 before local rival, St. Joe's Prep. Today, Ryan, Dan W, Joel, and Noah exemplified the importance of putting 100% into every stroke, and their drive was rewarded at the finish line. The 3rd HT gold went to novice, Olivia H, who swept the gig category finishing 23 seconds before her competitor! Olivia prepared herself this afternoon for her first sprint race ever and delivered outstandingly as a result of her focus on strength and technique. Amanda and Kayla rowed a great race in their novice double against some tough competition. Their eagerness and excitement made this a fun race to watch. These two girls really worked together to row as a unit. Before the race, they mapped out the areas they wanted to improve upon and followed through with their goals down the race course. The girl's novice quad earned the title of 'Best Comeback' this afternoon. Olivia E, Sophia, Rebecca, and Kara were up by open water during the first half of the race before catching a few crabs but they still managed to snag 3rd place. We are eager to hit the water hard this week and come back with the same fierceness and perseverance as shown today. Noa and Rachel earned 2nd place in the JV double. The girls quickly adjusted to their new lineup in this boat and fought against some tough crews throughout the 1500 meters. In the varsity doubles, Lauren and Angela also took 2nd place with a time of 5:48.09. The pair was able to enjoy calm winds and water this afternoon, which was hard to come by earlier in the day. They took advantage of the water and rowed a clean race to the finish. Brie and Marianna also raced in this category finishing 3rd in their heat at 6:55.93. Their positive spirits lead them to finish a successful race, and they look forward to improving upon their skills this week during practice. Great things are sure to come next week at Flick #5. Thank you to all the wonderful parents for their support and for putting together an awesome food tent yet again. Comments are closed.
