The team had a great day on the Schuylkill this past weekend with 12 boats racing in the Navy Day Regatta! For some, this was a return to the race course after several months of training, for others it was the first opportunity to compete against other teams. With all events being compressed into just a few hours it was a fun opportunity to see everyone race relatively close together!
The day started off with a fantastic performance from one of our captains. Joey finished in 4th overall in the varsity single, earning himself an opportunity to race next Saturday in the Hoffman Challenge event during the Gold Cup Challenge on Cooper River. Joey was followed by two top 10 finishes in the boys doubles! Luke and Tommy, and Brendan and Evan, finished in 8th and 9th respectively and continued the strong start to the day. The club had 3 entries in the boys quad event. Anthony, Hans, Jack and Ryan had the top showing for the Hawks with a 12th place finish, followed by Julian, Justin, Dane, and Henry in 18th place. The third crew of Gavin, Caspian, Connor, and Cahill had a great day, beating 5 other crews in a varsity event, in their first ever regatta! The day continued for the Hawks with a couple of great pieces for Kara and Lilly in the girls singles. After only being in the singles a few times prior to race day Kara and Lilly looked confident and strong heading down the course! Next up were a couple of really strong races from the girls quads. Athena, Maggie, Brooke, and Gina raced down the course to a 4th place overall finish! Payton, Elena, Maddie, and Caroline H continued the streak of strong first races by also beating 5 crews in a varsity event in their first regatta! The girls doubles wrapped the day up for the Hawks with a strong race from Caroline R and Mariah and a top 10 finish from Jacqui and Grace! Great job by all crews! The Hawks will return to the Schuylkill on October 30th for the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta. Comments are closed.
