HTCC raced to one of it's best performances ever at the Scholastic National Championship this weekend. Three crews advanced out of the heats, and two went on to medal in the finals!
The boys junior quad of Parker, Dan, Walter, and Duff made great strides this week technically and raced hard during their heat, but unfortunately fell short of advancing to the finals. These boys have had a fantastic season and the coaching staff is looking forward to seeing them grow through next year and beyond! Joey came into this weekend with the daunting task of competing in the senior single. Many of the competitors in this event have been rowing in a single for years. Although he has only been in the single for a few weeks, Joey put together an impressive race in his heat and advanced to the semi-finals. In the semi's he put together the race of his life, executing his plan perfectly, but just fell short of the finals. Joey has been a key member of this team and makes every day on the water or in the erg room a joy. He will be missed next year! The girls senior quad of Angela, Lauren, Olivia H, and Noa were the first crew to reach the finals. They solidly won their heat on Friday with the third overall time. They came to the course on Saturday focused and ready to get to business. The girls had an amazing race, closing the gap to Conestoga from previous weeks and finishing with a silver medal! The boys senior quad of Erik, Springer, Luke, and Keaton followed the girls as the second crew to reach the finals. The boys finished second in their heat on Friday and knew they had a tough battle ahead if they wanted to come away with a medal. Despite one of the boys being hit in the face with a golf ball and not being able to breath out of his nose, the crew did just that! They finished only two seconds off Conestoga and 0.2 seconds ahead of Niskayuna (a team who beat them last week) to come away with a bronze medal! This is the first time in club history that we have medalled in both varsity quads and is a tremendous accomplishment for the athletes! Both quads will be back on the water this week to prepare for the USRowing Youth National Championship in Sarasota, Florida on June 12-14. Go Hawks!! Comments are closed.
