HTCC finished up an impressive weekend today at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta with six crews racing in Saturday semi's, two racing in the finals, and one coming away with a silver medal!
Ella and Julie started the weekend for the hawks with a very impressive race in the girls junior double. They were followed by another strong race by Christine and Sophia in the girls senior double. Although they did not advance to the semis, the girls had their strongest races of the year and finished the season on a high note! Both junior quads raced to seventh place finishes in their time trials and advanced to the semi finals on Saturday. Kara, Olivia E, Becca, and Rachel put together another solid race in the semi's, unfortunately finishing in fourth and out of the finals. The girls have only been together for a few weeks and have been improving steadily each time they put their boat in the water. We are looking forward to seeing them progress into next season!! In the boys junior quad, Parker, Dan, Walter, and Duff raced to a fifth place finish in their semi final, just outside of the top three cut-off for finals. These boys still have a lot of speed left in them and will be out again next weekend at SRAA's! Joel, Noah, and Tyler finished their scholastic rowing careers this weekend with strong races against fast competition. Joel and Noah came out of the time trials in 8th place in the boys senior double and knew it would be a tough road ahead to the finals. In the semi finals, the boys put the hammer down but were unable to advance, finishing in sixth place. Tyler finished in 15th in the time trial in the boys senior single. He decided to go big or go home in the semi final, needing a top two finish to advance to the final, and he almost did just that! Tyler held a solid second place for a large part of the race but was unable to hold on in the end. These boys have been valuable members of our club for four years and their leadership and character will be missed on the team next season. In the boys senior quad, Erik, Springer, Luke, and Keaton had their best weekend of racing this year, and although they did not come away with medals they turned many heads with their performance. The boys finished in fifth place in their time trial, earning a spot in the Saturday semi-finals. In the semi's, the boys cruised to a strong third place finish and the only finals appearance for the boys squad. In one of the fastest races we have seen this year, the boys fought hard and displayed a tremendous amount of tenacity, finishing in fifth place. Making the finals in a varsity event at Stotesbury is an extraordinary accomplishment and these boys should be proud. They will return to the Cooper next week for SRAA's and will then head down to Florida on June 12th for the USRowing Youth National Championships. The girls senior quad of Angela, Lauren, Olivia H, and Noa came away with the first medal in school history in this event! On Friday the girls showed their strength with a third place finish in the time-trial. They came into Saturday looking fast and cruising through the semi's in second place in their race and fourth fastest time of the morning. The girls came back this afternoon looking loose and ready to go for the finals. The had their fastest race of the year at the right time and came away with a silver medal! This is a tremendous accomplishment and one they have earned through hard work and dedication all season. The girls will return to the Cooper next weekend for SRAA's and will then travel to Florida on June 12th for the USRowing Youth National Championships. GO HAWKS!! Comments are closed.
